My Husband Needs a Bone Marrow Transplant

Posted in CRWilliams on Aug 19, 2006... modified on Aug 19, 2006

My husband is need of a bone marrow transplant in the immediate future or he will die.  His story is also posted on the Buzz radio station website at www.buzz103.com.

Doug Williams; he's 46 years old, dad to Jennifer and Danny, and grandfather to Angelina.  Unfortunately, Doug has an extremely rare blood disorder called Aplastic Anemia  Doug has been the primary breadwinner of our family but he can no longer work due to this horrible, debilitating disease.  Low red blood cells cause him severe fatigue, low white blood cells force him into isolation where he has to avoid human contact because he cannot fight infections, and low platelets place him at risk of uncontrolled bleeding.   Because of Doug's medical restrictions he cannot work or participate in every day life.  He's always been a hardworking, taxpaying citizen who has never asked or needed help. He is now considered to be permanently disabled, with no income, he cannot work, his disability insurance has run out, he does not qualify for Medicaid, but is awaiting a etermination on receiving Social Security Disability payments. Although we have health insurance coverage, it is almost exhausted and it does not cover a National Bone Marrow search.  A National Bone Marrow search has become necessary because none of Doug's family members are compatible matches.

The National Bone Marrow search and subsequent treatment will cost approximately $100,000 - $400,000 in out of pocket costs.

Checks payable to: National Transplant Assistance Fund. Memo section of check: In Honor of Doug Williams, 150 N. Radnor Chester Road, Suite F-120, Radnor, PA  19087 (This is a tax-deductible charitable donation pursuant to IRS code 501(C)(3).

Thank you for any assistance you can offer.
